2 Speech Preparation- 5 Cannons
Invention- selecting the best ideas/points for speech. Arrangement- Organization of speech- intro- 3 main pts- conclusion Style- language to best express speakers ideas to audience Memory- PRACTICE Speech Delivery- How you sound and look.

3 Selecting Your Topic- Topic- subject of your speech
Ex: The Man. Brainstorming- list every idea that comes to mind. Then use audience analysis to narrow down and your own interests.

4 Word Association: 2. Off of brainstorming ideas list words that come to mind on each topic.

Summer--- Moped---- safety--- freedom Lake--- Fishing--- Types of boats– legal size WWII- Battle of Brittan– RAF– RADAR– Win School- ID’s--- Detention– ICU– College Animals- Pets– Dogs--- Teaching tricks

Current events/Hot topics Dangers of cinnamon challenge Taylor Lautner is amazing! What interests you? Different sites have plain old topics TAKE A RISK!

7 Time for Brain Storming-
Introduction Speech! Time for Brain Storming- How would you introduce super hero or self? Things you want people to know about superhero or self. (Matt Foley) powers? Large, small, unique? Activities Interests? Archnemisis?

9 Keys to picking topic- Consider your knowledge/interests
Context- Who is your audience. Pick a topic early and STICK WITH IT! Studies prove= more success

10 Rhetorical Purpose- The intended effect on the audience
In class it is assigned Ex. Introducing a speaker Ex. Inform on a disease or genetic disorder.

11 Ah Yes, I want to take over the WORLD!
After Topic Develop Thesis Statement Thesis: conveys the topic and purpose of the speech. All the different parts of speech tie into the thesis statement. Ah Yes, I want to take over the WORLD!

12 Quality over Quantity Don’t worry about time- Worry about QUALITY!!
Biggest mistake- people worry if they hit the minimum requirement.

14 Use outline format to write speech
1 sentence per number. DO NOT WRITE SPEECH WORD FOR WORD.

15 Assignment- Monday- Present a speech on your favorite super hero or villain. From a note card Remember to use what you learned from introductions!
