2. The Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental Railroad helped people travel goods across the country.
The government in the United States gave two companies the job of building the railroads.
Two of the companies that built the railroads were the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific.

3. The Gold Rush
By 1850 California had enough people to be a state because of the gold rush.
During the gold rush thousands of people came to California to find gold.
It wasn’t easy finding gold because you would have to be patent and it took many hours finding a few gold flakes.

4. Cowboys
Cowboys had to get cattle across the country this plan was called the cattle drive.
The cattle drives began in Texas and ended in Dodge City, Kansas
The cattle drives ended around the 1880’s because of a conflict between ranchers and farmers.
