Background ICRAF has had over 10 years working in Zambezi Basin countries developing and testing agroforestry technologies with government, NGOs, CBOs and farmers Proven technologies, demonstrated impacts, growing markets, improving local capacities for supporting farmers Need to move to scale—requires more attention to mainstreaming, institutionalizing, and policy reforms ICRAF approached FANRPAN to do this

Full Proposal Submitted to CIDA
Under preparation over several months CIDA has expressed interest subject to further revisions and clarifications Target is November submission of final C$ 5 million over 4 years Field work focused on Chinyanja Triangle to build on existing capacities Policy and institutional strengthening work at national and regional levels

Three thrusts Mainstream agroforestry innovations through sound science and effective policies and institutions Strengthen capacities of governments, NGOs to promote and support agroforestry innovations Increase adoption and impact through effective targeting and efficient scaling up approaches

Project objectives Engage and inform policy makes to institutionalize and mainstream agroforestry Assist partners to develop long term implementation programmes Prioritize and target agroforestry Improve female and male farmers’ access to agroforestry Institutionalize sustainable market-driven input supply and delivery systems for agroforestry Improve profitability of agroforestry through value added and innovative packaging

Why FANRPAN? Opportunity to lead a major regional policy reform programme with potential for large impacts on livelihoods Opportunity to strengthen and demonstrate capacity to manage large multi-partner regional project
