14 REF 2014 results: highlights of larger teams
Architecture - 8th for outputs Arts - 4th out of 84 for research environment, and largest submission in Unit of Assessment English Language and Literature – very strong overall + 10th for research intensity History - 8th for research intensity Modern Languages and Linguistics – 3rd for research quality Theology and Religious Studies - 7th nationally for research quality Intensity takes into account the REF overall score for research quality (GPA) and the percentage of research staff submitted.

15 Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE)
CHASE brings together 9 leading institutions engaged in collaborative research activities including an AHRC doctoral training partnership. These are the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex, the Open University, the Courtauld Institute of Art, Goldsmiths, University of London, Birkbeck, University of London and SOAS, University of London. AHRC PhD studentship competition for 2019 entry will be launched shortly.

The Masters degree is intended to equip you with advanced research & analytical skills as well as a range of transferable skills which are attractive to employers beyond academia. We celebrate diversity and promote equality If you are thinking of further study to undertake a PhD in the Arts and Humanities, you should not delay in thinking about this and making preparations.

AHRC (CHASE Doctoral Training Partnership) University Scholarships and School Scholarships Deadlines for applications in January 2019 Highly competitive You should begin work on a proposal and application in the Autumn term Identify prospective original research question and prospective PhD supervisor, and work closely with them as soon as you can.

If you are fulltime, treat your studies like a fulltime job, 40 hours per week: read, read & read some more, but also engage with researchers in the Faculty to bring those words of the page/screen to life All colleagues share a commitment to enthusing you and exciting you about analysing the high class research that we are undertaking in the Faculty to better understand the arts and humanities world So keep talking to us, telling us what we are doing well and letting us know what we can do better Good luck!
