Volume Pyramids
2
Pyramid Formula Even though there are different types of pyramids, there is only one formula: V = 1 3 Bh h = height (the distance from the center of the base to the tip of the pyramid) B = area of the base **B does not represent base, but the area of the base; therefore, you must figure out the area of the base using area formulas.
3
Types of Pyramids Pyramids have one base that defines it shape. The base of the pyramid defines its shape. If the base is circular, then it is a cone. If the base is rectangular, then it is a rectangular based pyramid. If the bases is triangular, then it is a triangular based pyramid.
4
Triangular Based Pyramid
V = 1 3 Bh B = 1 2 bh B = 1 2 bh B = 1 2 (12)(10) B = 60 cm2 V = 1 3 Bh V = 1 3 (60)(17) V = 340 cm3
5
Rectangular Based Pyramid
V = 1 3 Bh B = bh B = bh B = (8)(7) B = 56 cm2 V = 1 3 Bh V = 1 3 (56)(11) V = cm3
6
Cylinder V = 1 3 Bh B = πr2 B = πr2 B = 3.14(42) B = 3.14(16)
B = mm2 V = 1 3 Bh V = 1 3 (50.24)(10) V = mm3

Practice Solve the volumes of the figures below
V = Bh V = (3.14)(52)(8) V = units3 V = Bh V = (8)(7)(12) V = 224 cm3 V = 1 3 Bh V = ( 1 2 )(8)(14)(17) V = units3 V = Bh V = 1 3 ( 1 2 )(6)(5)(10) V = 50 m3 V = Bh V = 1 3 (8)(7)(6) V = 112 cm3
