2 Para Educators The class size side letter in the agreement addresses this issue. Kindergarten through 2nd grade will be offered para educator assistance in the following situations: 32 or more students in a general education classroom – full time para educator will be offered 29 or more ELL or combination students – full time para educator will be offered 30 or more studnets for general education – 3 hours per day of para educator assistance will be offered 27 or more ELL students or combination – 3 hours per day of para educator assistance will be offered PPD – principals at sites requiring meetings (staff, trainings, district offered PD, curriculum writing)

3 Para Educators cont. Third through sixth grade classrooms will be offered a full time para educator in the following situations: 35 or more students for general education 32 or more students for ELL or combination

4 Overload or 6th class process
Class loads are determined by section 8.2 of the Elgin Agreement A tenure teacher may consent to teach more than the assigned 5 class periods. When determining which teacher will be offered the 6th class, there are 2 determining factors. 1. Availability – which teacher(s) are available when the class is being offered. The teacher must have an open period where the class is selected. 2. Seniority – of the teachers that are available that period which the class is running, the class must be offered in order of seniority.

5 Special Education ratios in Gen ed classrooms
According to IL School Code the ratio of students with an IEP to students without should be 70/30 (70% gen ed students to 30% IEP students) Any modification to the school code requires a waiver.
