Marion County, Indiana – Project POINT
Project POINT (Planned Outreach, Intervention, Naloxone, and Treatment) is designed to connect high risk, opioid misusing patients to treatment and develop a mobile crisis assistance team consisting of law enforcement, paramedics, and crisis specialists. The project is a partnership between the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the City of Indianapolis Office of Public Health and Safety, and the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County. The Indiana University Center for Criminal Justice Research serves as the research partner.

Project POINT receives funding from the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation. They funded the expansion of the pilot program that allowed the program to hire their first recovery coach with an award of $750,000 for 2 years. This award ends in December BJA made a grant award to support Project POINT in October 2017 in the amount of $300,000. Project POINT also received a second grant from a smaller foundation after the BJA grant was awarded. This foundation does not want to be named, but they gave Project POINT $50,000 for one year.

Philanthropy funding is paying for a recovery coach in the ED and wrap around services. BJA funds are used for program coordination specifically to improve connection to care for those who have criminal justice involvement.
