Learning management systems
Welcome to Blackboard
2
Blackboard Blackboard is one of the leading commercial LMS products used in North America and Europe. Blackboard has many features and characteristic that makes it very user friendly and accessible. The easy access to the instructor and other students is a great feature in Blackboard. According to (Martin, 2008), Blackboard is an effective learning management system, it allows students to become familiar with technology and access the course material on digital format. For students, it is important that they are able to access the site first. There they will find access to the instructor and other students. The gradebook, assignments, coursework, announcements and more is there as well. Blackboard is a great sight that offer these features.

communication ASYNCHRONOUS SYNCHRONOUS
Defined as data that is transmitted intermittently rather than in a steady stream; not going at the same time rate/exactly together with something else. Defined as data existing or occurring at the same time. Communication within the LMS between students and instructors is very important. It is one thing that LMS must have to provide the proper channeling for students. There are two ways communication can be transmitted, either asynchronous or synchronous.
4
Continued…. In Blackboard, synchronous is the ways students and instructors communicate from my perspective. Instant messaging is a good description of how communications flows on Blackboard. Students are always on Blackboard. Whether it is communicating with other students or posting on discussion board. Once students make a post there are other students waiting to post or comment back. There is also a place to communicate brief and quick with the instructor. Audio may be available for certain classes.
5
Organization Course information from the instructor provides the strongest organizational feature. From this point the students can access the class, assignments, gradebook, s, students and the instructor just to name a few. The content on Blackboard can be organized according to the content of the course. The instructor also have the advantage of organizing the content. The CMS is the strong point for organization as it provides two distinct areas to manage and publish content.
6
Student’s perspective
Students enjoy the convenience of Blackboard. They have access to all their materials in one place. Accessing the gradebook is another benefits that students get in Blackboard. The students can track and keep up with things just as the instructor can. Communication with other students and group members is another feature that students like in Blackboard. The major key for LMS is to have the tools that students require to support their course and study.
7
A FEW ISSUES… DOWN TIME NOT ALWAYS USER FRIENDLY POP-UP BLOCKERS
When ever there are a lot of good things going on, a few issues will always hang around. These issues are used a stepping stones to improve particular things going on in a LMS. These issue here at times make it hard for students to access their classes and assignments.
8
Benefits…. Students are already familiar with the site (Blackboard).
Instructors get to personalize their content. LMS, CMS, and LMCS can be used to support and build. Communication with students at their fingertip. Blackboard is the leading commercial LMS therefore there are more benefits available.
9
My use of blackboard Blackboard will be used as my source for teaching students online. From experiences to research proves that Blackboard is a great LMS with a few flaws as all systems have. Students like features that Blackboard offers in making sure that they have what is needed for classes.
10
Benefits to others Blackboard is one of the leading commercial LMS products used in North America and Europe (Munoz & Duzer, 2005 and is the most widely-adopted learning management system among U.S. postsecondary institutions. Blackboard provides a password-protected environment and has administration tools that make teaching online easier (Lowe, 2003). This alone puts Blackboard on the markets as being beneficial to school and institutions around the world. Students ratings and perspectives on Blackboard makes it easy to see that it is used because of the benefits. Everything is right at your fingertips. This not only goes for the instructors but students as well.
