2. What is the NCAA Eligibility Center?
Evaluates and certifies prospective student-athletes for collegiate competition at Divisions I and II schools.
Students who want to compete at NCAA Division I or Division II schools need to meet NCAA Eligibility Center:
Academic initial-eligibility requirements
Amateurism requirements

3. Register with the Eligibility Center during 10th grade year
Register for a Certification page at eligibilitycenter.org
Register as a Division I or Division II student
$80 fee. If you are on free/reduced lunch (you must re-enroll each year of high school) and have received an ACT voucher, you may be eligible to have your fee waived.
Account information, school and sport history.
Required for signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with a Division I or Division II NCAA School.
Required to go on an official visit to a Division I or Division II NCAA school.

4. To create a certification account: eligibilitycenter.org
A valid address. (Best practice is to use an address that remains accessible after graduating from high school).
Your education history, from age 11 onward.
Your sports participation history, from age 14 onward.

5. Is there a cost to register?
Certification Page: to register there is an $80 one time fee.
Waiver: Student should register and then request a fee waiver. You will receive a fee waiver if you received a fee waiver for the ACT, if you are on free/reduced lunch or meet a specific family income guideline.
Profile page: FREE. Create a profile page, if you plan to compete at a Division III school or are not yet sure where you want to compete. You’ll get an NCAA ID, and the eligibility center will send you important reminders as you complete high school.
NOTE: You do not create BOTH. You could start with a profile page and then convert it to the certification page (which will then cost $$).

6. Division I Initial Eligibility Academic Requirements
Graduate high school on time.
Complete 16 NCAA-approved core courses in the correct subjects.
Earn a minimum core-course GPA of 2.3
Earn a combined SAT or ACT sum score (super score) that matches your core-course GPA on the Division I sliding scale.
HVA requires 28 credits to graduate, so 16 of those 28 credits most be NCAA-approved core courses in the correct subjects.

7. Graduate ON TIME! TIME LIMITATIONS
When you enter 9th grade, you have four years (eight semesters) to complete your core-course requirement.
If you do not complete high school on time, your core courses taken after high school will not count toward NCAA requirements.
On time = high school graduation date. If you do not graduate on that date, you have not completed your requirements on time.

8. 16 28 HVA Graduation Requirements: 28 credits
English (4) : English I, II, III, IV
Math (4) : Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2, Additional Math beyond Algebra 2
Social Studies (3.5): World Hist/Geo; US Gov’t; US History; Economics
Science (3) : Biology, Chemistry OR Physics, one additional lab science
Personal Finance (1/2 credit) Lifetime Wellness 1 credit
PE (HVA awards 1 credit) 2 credits: World Language credit Fine Art
3 credit Elective Focus in one of the following areas: Math/Science (above the core); PE (above the one requirement); Humanities; AP/DE; Career Technical Education; Fine Arts; Human Services (Peer Tutoring/ACTS). 28

9. Graduation from HVA: Requirements and Options
Required
28 credits and specific types of credits
Elective Focus (3 courses in the same elective area).
Optional
Endorsement is OPTIONAL.
Community service is OPTIONAL. However, colleges take community service into consideration for some scholarship programs. We encourage all HVA students to perform community service.

10. DIVISION I CORE COURSES- 10/7 rule Of those 16 Core Courses, complete 10 NCAA core courses, including seven in English, math or natural/physical science, before your seventh semester (first semester senior year)
English: 4 years
Natural/Physical Science: 2 years
Math: 3 years
Social Science: 2 years
Additional (English, math, or natural/physical science): 1 year
Additional: (English, math, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion, or philosophy): 4 years
Seven of 10 core courses must be in English, math, or science
Final Grade is “locked in”: courses cannot be re-taken to earn a higher GPA

English: 4 credits (1 each year) - English 1, 2, 3, 4 (CP, Honors or AP) Math: 4 credits (1 each year, 1 beyond Algebra 2) Algebra 1 A/1B or Algebra 1 or Honors Algebra 1 Geometry A/B or Geometry or Honors Geometry Algebra 2 A/2B or Algebra 2 or Honors Algebra 2 Pre Calculus/Honors Pre Calculus OR AP Statistics (do not yet know if CP Stats will meet eligibility requirements) NOTE: Bridge Math does NOT meet NCAA Eligibility Requirements

Social Studies: 9th grade: World History/Geography or Honors or AP Human Geography 10th grade: US Government or AP Government 11th grade: US History or AP US History 12th grade: Economics or AP Economics (Micro or Macro) NOTE: Personal Finance is an HVA graduation requirement that does NOT meet NCAA requirements

13. HVA Graduation Requirements meeting NCAA Eligibility Requirements
Science: 3 lab sciences, two must be Biology and Chemistry OR Physics 9th grade: Ecology, Physical Science, Physical World Concepts, Physical World Concepts Honors 10th grade: Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry or Chemistry Honors 11th grade: Biology A/B, Biology or Biology Honors Other Sciences: Botany/Zoology, Geology, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy/Physiology World Languages: All but AP Chinese meet NCAA requirements as an additional CORE Course

14. A note about credit recovery/summer school….
Edgenuity courses do not meet NCAA eligibility guidelines!!!

15. Bottom line: Pass everything the first time.
Credit recovery will not count for NCAA eligibility.

18. Division I Qualifier You are eligible to practice, compete and receive athletics aid your first year of college enrollment.
Qualifiers meet the standards of:
16 core courses in the correct subjects.
10/7 core-course progression
Minimum core-course GPA of 2.3
Combined SAT or ACT sum score that matches their core- course GPA on the sliding scale.

19. ACT/SAT- use 9999 Take either/both as many times as you wish.
Each time you register to take it, send scores directly to NCAA Eligibility using “9999”
ACT/SAT scores on transcripts will NOT be used in academic certification.
NCAA uses best sum scores.
ACT sum score: adds English, math, reading, and science sub scores.
Your test score and GPA will be matched on the Division I sliding scale.

21. DIVISION II Athletic Academic Requirements
Graduate high school
Complete 16 NCAA-approved core courses.
Earn a minimum core-course GPA of 2.20
Earn a combined SAT/ACT sum score that matches your core course GPA on the full- qualifier scale.

22. High School Timeline Follow these suggestions to prepare for Division I & Division II initial eligibility requirements.
9th grade: Make sure you pass all your classes and are taking appropriate NCAA CORE courses.
10th grade: Register with the Eligibility Center.
11th grade:
Meet with school counselor to ensure you will graduate on time with the required number of NCAA core courses.
Take the SAT or ACT and submit scores to the NCAA Eligiblity Center using code
Use your online Parchment account to send the official transcript to the NCAA Eligiblity Center at the end of the year. You will HOLD it for final S2 grades.

23. 12th grade timeline: Complete last NCAA core courses.
Take the SAT or ACT again, if necessary, and submit scores to the NCAA Eligiblity Center using code 9999.
Apply to the school of your choosing. Send your transcript to the school through Parchment, and then confirm you have been accepted.
Request final amateurism certification beginning April 1, before enrolling in college in the fall.
Request your FINAL official transcript with proof of graduation (it will have your graduation date on it) to the NCAA Eligibility Center.

24. Final thoughts from the Counselors:
In addition to athletic scholarships, don’t overlook Academic, Leadership, or Community Service scholarships.
The higher the GPA and higher the ACT score, the more likely you will be considered for additional scholarships.
