What we know… Atoms make up all matter.
Elements and compounds are pure. Elements are made up of one type of atom. Compounds are made up of multiple elements. Elements are metals, nonmetals, or metalloids. Elements have their own properties. Compounds have different properties than the elements that make them up.
16
I CAN… I can match an element to its symbol.
I can create a Venn diagram to compare elements and compounds. I can identify the elements that make up a compound. I can list properties of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids.

QUICK SIX One person in your group will be the reader for Round 1.
Everyone else will play against each other. A different person should be the reader for Round 2. The first person to collect SIX cards is the winner! The reader reads off one statement at a time. The players SLAP a card that has that information on it. The first person to SLAP the card puts that card in their winning pile. The first pile to SIX wins the game! Every player starts with FIVE cards face up in front of them.
