F. Scott Fitzgerald – The Early Years
Born in Minnesota in 1896, Died in California in 1940 Attended St. Paul Academy and graduated Princeton in 1917 Joined the Army during WWI, but the war ended before he was sent to Europe Began writing for advertising firm and publishing short stories

His Personal Life Married Zelda Sayre, a wealthy young socialite in 1920 Lived in New York and became a big celebrity – lived the big life Zelda became schizophrenic in early 1930 – lived in mental institutions Became an alcoholic Died after a heart attack at the age of 44

Published four novels This Side of Paradise (1920) The Beautiful and Damned (1922) The Great Gatsby (1925) Tender Is the Night (1934) The Last Tycoon - unfinished but published upon his death - “Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy.”

FLAPPERS! FLAPPING! The term "flapper", referred to a "new breed" of young women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered "decent" behavior. The flappers were seen as brash in their time for wearing makeup, drinking hard liquor, and smoking.
