Construction Wanyan Liang of the Jin dynasty moved capital to Yanjing (Beijing) in 1153 The Summer Palace was completed in 1764 at the cost of 4.8 million silver taels (about 71 million USD.) In 1884, Guangxu Emperor ordered 3 million silver taels to be used for rebuilding and expanding the Summer Palace (about 51 million USD). In 1900 after the Boxer rebellion the Summer Palace was looted, but then later restored 2 years later Many of Mao Zedong’s friends and colleagues lived in the Summer Palace
