The Strategy The REAP strategy helps us to comprehend the text.
READ, ENCODE, ANNOTATE, PONDER Read the text, and note the author and title; encode the text by putting it into your own words; annotate by highlighting important points and summarizing the text; ponder by thinking about and explaining what you learned from the text. Form a question about the text. We revisit the text for each section

The Strategy: Example R: The title is “The Three Little Pigs”. It is a folktale so it has no specific author. E: The main ideas are: 1) hard work pays off, 2) having access to better resources can make your life easier, and 3) greed can lead to failure. A: The pig that built his home with more care and effort survived the wolf’s attack. Hard work results in success. P: The pigs who the wolf ate thought that their homes would protect them. Why did they believe this? Could they afford bricks?
