1 Endocrine System Skeletal System
Structures Pancreas Adrenal Glands Thyroid Hormones Hypothalamus Pituitary Thymus Adrenal Ovaries Testes Interacting Systems Regulation: Endocrine system makes certain hormones. Blood in the Circulatory system carries them to the skeletal system to control the amount of calcium released by bones. Skeletal System Structures Nutrient Absorption Clavicle Femur Humerus Phalanges Skull Spine Bones Cartilage Ligaments Interacting Systems Works with the muscular system to move the body. Works with the immune system to produce white blood cells. Produces red blood cells for the circulatory system. Function Influences growth, development, and metabolism Helps maintain homeostasis Function Supports and protects vital organs Allows movement Stores minerals Serves as the site for red blood cell production

2 Muscular System Immune System Structures Skeletal Muscle Smooth Muscle
Cardiac Muscle Tendons Interacting Systems Food is broken down in the stomach mechanically by the muscular system and chemically by water, acid, and enzymes in the digestive system. Nutrients are then absorbed by blood in the circulatory system. Immune System Structures Physical, chemical, and biological barriers or active defense mechanisms White blood cells T-Cells B-cells Macrophages Interacting Systems Mucus in the lungs traps a virus in the respiratory system. T-cells in the immune system destroy virus-infected cells. Nerves in the nervous system sense the need to cough. Function Protects against disease. Stores and generates white blood cells Function Produces voluntary and involuntary movements Helps to circulate blood and move food through the digestive system

3 Nervous System Integumentary System Structures Brain Spinal Cord
Nerves Nerve Cell Hypothalamus Interacting Systems Regulation and defense: Nervous system alerts organism to danger and the digestive system helps produce vomit. Integumentary System Acts as a barrier against infection, injury, and UV radiation Helps regulate body temperature Structures Epidermis Dermis Skin Hair Nails Horns Sweat Glands Sebaceous Oil Glands Hair Follicle Interacting Systems Interacts with the excretory system to produce sweat. Interacts with the endocrine system and circulatory system to regulate body temperature. Function Function Regulates the body’s response to changes in internal and external environments Processes information

4 Circulatory System Structures Heart Veins Capillaries Arteries
Arterioles Red Blood Cells Interacting Systems Defense: Circulatory system and immune system protect the body from pathogens Reproductive System Structures MALE: Testicles Sperm FEMALE: Ovaries Egg Uterus Urethra Interacting Systems Reproductive: Certain hormones produced in the endocrine system control ovulation in a female’s reproductive system. Muscular system causes migration of the ovum by peristaltic contractions. Function Transports oxygen, nutrients, and waste Regulates body temperature Collects fluid lost from blood vessels and returns it to the circulatory system Function Produces reproductive cells In females, it provides a good environment for an embryo

5 Excretory System Respiratory System
Structures Bladder Kidney Ureter Urethra Interacting Systems Toxin build-up would affect the nervous system. Works closely with the circulatory system to return blood to the body once it is cleaned. Respiratory System Brings in Oxygen for Cells Expels CO2 and Water Structures Nose Trachea Bronchi Bronchioles Lungs Alveoli Interacting Systems Regulation: Respiratory System increases the breathing rate, and the Circulatory System increases blood pressure to provide tissues with more oxygen. Function Eliminates waste products Helps maintain homeostasis Function

6 Body Systems Digestive System Structures Mouth Esophagus Stomach
Small Intestines Large Intestines Rectum Anus Salivary Glands Pancreas Liver Gall Bladder Interacting Systems Works with Excretory system to excrete unused waste. The muscular system helps move food through digestive system. Nutrients absorbed by the digestive system, is carried to cells via the circulatory system. Function Breaks down and absorbs nutrients and water Eliminates some waste
