2 New Solutions The Great Depression was so hard it shook the political foundations of Canada (and the world) The traditional powers in Canada (Liberals, Conservatives) had very little to offer Canadians due to the principle of “Laissez-Faire” Tariffs, Relief payments, “Moving of Dirt” and Relief Camps were not solving the Depression

1929 Mackenzie King states in a speech he “wouldn’t give a penny” to the Provinces to help support people 1931 Coal Miners Strike N.B. 1932 Estevan Miner’s Strike 1932 Creation of Relief Camps 1935 Bennett campaign speech- 1935- On-to-Ottawa Trek and Regina Riot Obviously Laissez-Faire wasn’t working- were Canadians ready to try something different?
