2 Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Corridor
What is the ‘Corridor’? The Corridor has the potential to be a growth corridor similar to Silicon Valley, nurturing the UK’s innovative industries. Two of our universities are consistently ranked in the top four globally and are widely-recognised as world leaders in key areas of research and innovation. We compete internationally for high-tech and science investment and we are home to significant industry concentrations that can be a springboard for this region to lead the way globally in areas such as medicine, life sciences, autonomous vehicles, biotech and artificial intelligence. How can we make the most of this opportunity? oxfordshirelep.com

4 Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Corridor
We want to position the Corridor clearly in the minds of global investors. This Corridor is the location for transformational investment within the KNOWLEDGE ECONOMIES for businesses and investors looking to deliver sustainable growth for the UK. Case study – knowledge economies: The Cambridge life sciences cluster comprises some 350 companies* – of these, 98% are SMEs, established in the last five years. Findings from the Oxfordshire Transformative Technologies Alliance’s science and innovation audit (SIA) says that the county can become a ‘global leader’ through four transformative technologies. If fully-utilised, the SIA suggests the technologies could be worth in the region of £180billion to the UK economy by 2030. * LDA Design & Cambridge University (2017) GCGP LEP Strategic Economic Plan evidence base ** The 2017 Oxfordshire Science and Innovation Audit oxfordshirelep.com

5 Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Corridor
We want to ensure that ‘UK PLC’ capitalises on the Corridor benefiting from ALL the economic strengths right across the region. The Corridor covers the UK’s fastest growing locations* with the focus on economically-led growth, and major infrastructure in development to enable the region to realise its full potential for INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY clusters. Case study – innovation and technology: Silverstone Park is home to 40 high performance technology and motorsport (HPTM) companies. This HPTM cluster adds £10billion to the UK economy and is home to eight of the 11 Formula One teams. The Corridor is an innovative eco-system, creating the environment for new innovations, collaboration and application of capabilities across sectors – for example, Volante Vision Concept – designed by Aston Martin, researched by Cranfield University, engineered by Cranfield Aerospace Solutions and powered by Rolls-Royce * Irwin Mitchell UK Powerhouse – City Growth Tracker Summer 2018 oxfordshirelep.com

6 Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Corridor
We want to ensure that everyone is aware of the global potential of the Corridor, which currently contributes £90.5billion to the UK economy. Our proactive business environment is recognised by the Government as a powerful opportunity to COMPETING GLOBALLY as a knowledge-intensive cluster, supported by transformational investment through nationally significant infrastructure projects, including the East-West Rail Link. Case study – competing globally The Corridor’s aerospace sector has the potential to be a major contributor to UK economic growth. In the UK alone, demand for national and international flights is forecast to almost double to 495 million passengers in 2050*. London Luton Airport reported nearly 1.4m passengers in April 2018, increasing by 3.3% from 2017. *Department for Transport (2017) UK aviation forecasts – Moving Britain Ahead oxfordshirelep.com

7 Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Corridor
We want to proactively follow the NIC’s position that the Corridor’s growth potential should be made ‘a national priority’. PRODUCTIVITY per person employed in the Corridor is forecast to almost double, rising to £81,000 person employed, by 2050*. Case study – productivity: The core UK film industry generates 43.9K full-time equivalent jobs and contributes £1.6billion to national GDP.** Pinewood and Leavesden Studios lie at the heart of the cluster with the skills base supported by the world’s best film school, the National Film and TV School in Beaconsfield. Pinewood Studios is one of the most recognised, respected and productive companies operating globally. * National Infrastructure Commission Report, November 2016, Cambridge Econometrics, **BFI (2012) The Economic Impact of the UK Film Industry oxfordshirelep.com

8 Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge Corridor
Many of our 3.3 million residents enjoy a high quality of life. It’s important that we take a strategic approach to PLACE-MAKING, ensuring planned growth is sustainable, coherent and sensitive to the area. Case study – place-making: Situated in the north west of Bicester, Elmsbrook provides hundreds of ‘zero-carbon homes’. It will provide 6,000 homes across 1,000 acres with 40% of the area dedicated green space, including allotments, play areas, sports and recreational facilities. oxfordshirelep.com

9 Oxford-Cambridge Corridor
The Corridor offers a once-in-a-generation opportunity to invest. Joined-up working, across Whitehall will be vital in realising the true value of new east-west CONNECTIVITY. Case study – connectivity: The Oxford-to-London Marylebone service – run by Chiltern Railways – is the first section of the East West Rail programme. This new link has generated impressive growth in rail journeys, seeing an 18% increase in rail journeys between Oxford and London within the first six months of its introduction – including connections via Oxford Parkway (left). oxfordshirelep.com

11 The Oxfordshire Local Industrial Strategy: Guiding Principles
1. Oxfordshire can deliver for the UK As one of three net contributors to the exchequer, Oxfordshire will deliver economic growth and manufacturing and supply chain opportunities for the rest of the UK. As part of the launch of the UK National Industrial Strategy, Oxfordshire has been invited by Government to develop a Local Industrial Strategy. This is a huge opportunity to build an ambitious programme for long-term economic growth. The Oxfordshire Local Industrial Strategy is centered around three principles: 2. Oxfordshire is a great place to invest Oxfordshire has a world-class innovation ecosystem with a concentration of global assets and strengths. This, along with our strengths in research and talented workforce, make Oxfordshire a great place to invest. 3. Oxfordshire has international potential Many of Oxfordshire’s industries already compete on a global level, and in new emerging markets. Investing in Oxfordshire will support us in our international potential. oxfordshirelep.com
