1 What is this feature? How do you think this feature was created?

2 Wave Cut Platforms LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Explain how processes of erosion create Wave Cut Platforms (How does erosion form Wave Cut Platforms?)

3

4 LINES OF WEAKNESS JOINT BEDDING PLANE

5 Waves erode (esp. h action and abrasion) the base of the cliff
and carve a wave-cut notch between the high and low tide lines. 2. The notch gets deeper leaving an overhang above, until one day the rock above it collapses due to gravity Wave-cut notch Tidal range This process happens repeatedly. The cliff slowly retreats to form a wave-cut platform which is exposed at low tide. Wave-cut platform

6

7 Wave-cut platform The waves attack the base of the cliff through the processes of abrasion, corrosion, hydraulic action and attrition. Over time the cliff will be undercut and a wave-cut notch is formed. Eventually the cliff becomes unstable and collapses. Further cliff retreat will form a wave-cut platform.
