Recognition of the fundamental worth and dignity of every person Respect for the equality of all persons Faith in majority rule and an insistence upon minority rights Acceptance of the necessity of compromise Insistence upon the widest possible degree of individual freedom.

Duties and Responsibilities of Citizenship
A citizen is one who holds both rights and responsibilities in a state. Duties Responsibilities Serving on a jury Serving as a witness when called Attending school Paying taxes Registering for the draft Obeying local, state, and national laws Respecting the rights of others Voting Volunteering Participating in civic life Understanding the workings of our government.

Democracy and Capitalism
Ideals of individual freedom foster our governmental system and lie at the root of our economic system. Capitalism is characterized by: Private ownership Individual initiative Profit Competition Government does play a role in the economy: Protection of the public Preservation of private enterprise
