History OF Microsoft The history of Microsoft began on April 4, 1975, when it was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque. Microsoft Windows eventually overshadowed OS/2 in terms of sales. to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair It rose to dominate the personal computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid- 1980s, followed by Microsoft Windows.
