Question #1 1.00 L of a gas at standard temperature and pressure is compressed to 473 mL. What is the new pressure of the gas? Step 1: P1 = 1 atm V1 = 1 L P2 = ? V2 = 473 mL (but wait, I have to change it to liters!) = .473 L Step 2 and 3 1/.473 = x/1 Cross multiply: .473x = 1 Divide: 1/.473 = 2.11 atm

Question #2 In a thermonuclear device, the pressure of liters of gas within the bomb casing reaches atm. When the bomb casing is destroyed by the explosion, the gas is released into the atmosphere where it reaches a pressure of 1.00 atm. What is the volume of the gas after the explosion? Step 1: P1 = atm V1 = .050 L P2 = 1 atm V2 = ? Step 2 and 3 /x= 1/.05 Cross multiply: ( )(.05)= 1 x = 1x Divide: /1= L
