Except he was a wealthy planter who owned many slaves Denounced Adams - corrupt aristocrat & that the people had been thwarted (prevent someone from accomplishing something) by a backstairs bargain

Adamsites - adopt the oak as the symbol of their oakenly independent candidate Though he was an aristocrat (nobleman), was far from corrupt
