Acid Rain , Lewis Acids and Bases, Review
2
Evaluation/Assessment:
Objective: Today I will be able to: Define acids and bases based on the Arrhenius, Bronsted-Lowry and Lewis theories Apply the principles of acidity to understanding the mechanism of acid rain Apply knowledge of acids and bases to a review Evaluation/Assessment: Informal assessment – listening to students questions and monitoring group interactions as the students complete the practice worksheets Formal assessment – analyzing student responses to the review sheet and the exit ticket. Common Core Connection Build Strong Content Knowledge Make sense of problem and persevere in solving them Reason abstractly and quantitatively

4
Warm - Up Watch the video clip Mr. Klotz show’s
Write a procedure to determine how you could test for acid rain in the Howard High School community

Lewis Acid/ Base Notes
10
Review What is the Arrhenius definition of an acid and base?
Acid - Substance that when dissolved in water, will yield H+ ions Substance that yields hydroxide ions (OH-) as the only negative ions in an aqueous solution What is the Bronsted-Lowry definition of an acid and base? An acid is a substance that can donate a proton Any substance that can combine with or accept a proton (H+)
11
Lewis Acid/ Base (Definition 3)
Lewis Acid – a substance that can accept a pair of nonbonding electrons (H+) Electron-pair acceptor Lewis Base – a substance that can donate a nonbonding pair of electrons (OH-) Electron-pair donator
12
Titration Calculation Review #2
Go over answers Titration Review 3 passed out
13
pH and pOH Calculation Practice
14
Acid and Base Review Sheet
Complete the practice at your desk. Problems not completed in class will become your homework
15
Exit Ticket Make a chart to compare and contrast the definitions for acids and bases based on the Lewis, Bronsted-Lowry and Arrhenius definitions.
