3 PROGRAM OF WORK RESOURCE MANAGER (P1609.1)
SECURITY SERVICES FOR APPLICATIONS AND MANAGEMENT MESSAGES (P1609.2) [formerly P1556] NETWORKING SERVICES (P1609.3) MULTI-CHANNEL OPERATIONS (P1609.4) Note: P1609 family of standards are intended to operate with IEEE p, Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE) in support of the U. S. Department of Transportation Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Program

4 RESOURCE MANAGER (P1609.1) SCOPE STATUS
“…describe the services and interfaces, including security and privacy protection mechanisms, associated with the DSRC Resource Manager operating at 5.9GHz band authorized by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and to satisfy the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) wireless communications requirements.” STATUS Draft P1609.1D12 Sponsor Ballot closed January 7, 2006, with 90.7% Affirmative, 6.2% abstain Addressing 522 comments and prepare draft for recirculation Recirculate to Sponsor Ballot Group following 5-day WG default review of how comments were addressed Projected approval June 2006

5 Security Services for Applications and Management Messages (P1609.2)
SCOPE (same as IEEE P1556 to be withdrawn by end of year 2005) defines secure message formats and processing of secure messages, within the DSRC/WAVE system defines methods for securing WAVE management messages and application messages, with the exception of anonymity-preserving vehicle safety messages describes administrative functions necessary to support the core security function STATUS Draft P1609D04 circulated for 30-day sponsor ballot, January 10, 2006 Address comments and prepare draft for WG review and recirculation Projected approval June 2006

6 NETWORKING SERVICES (P1609.3)
SCOPE “…define services, operating at the network and transport layers, in support of wireless connectivity among vehicle-based devices, and between fixed roadside devices and vehicle-based devices using the 5.9 GHz DSRC/WAVE mode.” STATUS Draft P1609.3D18 circulated for 30-day sponsor ballot January 9, 2006 Address comments and prepare draft for WG review and recirculation to sponsor ballot group Projected approval June 2006

7 MULTI-CHANNEL OPERATIONS (P1609.4)
SCOPE “…describes multi-channel wireless radio operations, that uses the IEEE p, WAVE mode, medium access control and physical layers, including the operation of control channel and service channel interval timers, parameters for priority access, channel switching and routing, management services, and primitives designed for multi-channel operations.” STATUS Draft P1609.4D07 circulated for 30-day sponsor ballot January 12, 2006 Address comments and prepare draft for WG review and recirculation to sponsor ballot group Projected approval June 2006

8 PROPOSAL FOR NEW WORK ITEMS
P1609.n, Standard for Test Method for WAVE/DSRC Application Services SCOPE. Develop test plan, process, and test methods for WAVE/DSRC Application Services Draft PAR, Scope and Purpose to be circulated for WG review and comment before February 2006 meeting Plan to submit Project Authorization Request (PAR) form for June 2006 IEEE New Standards Committee (NESCOM) meeting Plan to establish IEEE P1609 Sub-Working Group to progress proposed work

9 Maintenance Phase Planning
Preliminary work can be started 6-months in advance of continuous maintenance PAR approval expected in September 2006 after standards are approved Continuous maintenance phase is planned to address V2 requirements to address known requirements to enhance and extend approved standards to support FHWA Vehicular Infrastructure Integration (VII) Initiative Maintenance phase continues for four years Develop procedures for administering Organization Identification (OID) codes assigned to P1609 and other object registration activities needed for management of DSRC/WAVE operations of devices for national deployment

10 Potential New Work Item Proposals
P1609 WG will be discussing at its next meeting: potential new projects at its next meeting maintenance PARs for the approved standards

11 Administering Assigned OIDs
