Classroom Newsletter September 24, 2018
Mrs. Burrell’s Class Classroom Newsletter September 24, 2018 Burrell’s Bits Reading Tips for Parents: Reading should be a daily occurrence in your house. Struggling readers can benefit from reading the same text again and again. This will help increase their knowledge of sight words, comprehension, and their fluency. I have told them they may read the same book every night for their reading homework. Ask them to tell you about the book. Look for the sequence of events, names of the characters in the story, and how many details they remember. Remember that Progress Folders are sent home every two weeks. Please look over the folder and return by Thursday. Progress Folders will mainly contain daily math homework with a few other work papers included. Most of our work is put in our Math Notebook and our ELA Notebook to use as resources. If you need to get in touch with me, my contact information is listed at the bottom of this page. If you leave a voice mail, I will not be able to get back in touch with you until after school. If I have a meeting off campus, it will be the next afternoon before I get a chance to return your call. You are also encouraged to write a note on your child’s Daily Home Note. If your child doesn’t have his or her own Library Card, I encourage you to take them to your local Spartanburg County Library Branch and get them one. You will need your ID and proof of residence. Please see my contact information below. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions or concerns. I will get in touch with you as soon as possible. We are a team and we need to work together in order for your child to be the best student they can be. ALL IN, For Every Child, Every Day, Whatever It Takes! What We’re Learning This Week
Dates to Remember September 24th Terrific Kid Recognition Congratulations to our Terrific Kid-Jermey Stewart September 27th-October 3rd Book Fair September 25th Picture Day Chapman Artist Reception September 27th Family Literacy Night 6:30 pm Come dressed tonight as your favorite book character! What We’re Learning This Week Math: We are continuing to take our individual multiplication facts tests. Ask your son/daughter if they have Rung the Bell! Please make sure your child is studying their Number Patterns nightly. We are working on Place Value in the classroom. ELA: We are continuing to work on choosing Just Right Books. Students are working on reading books that they will be successful reading and understanding what they have read. We are also working on writing about what we are reading or what has been read aloud. Other Information Here Ask your child three “you” questions every day. The art of conversation is an important social skill, but parents often neglect to teach it. Get a conversation going with questions like, “What was your favorite part about today?” “What would you like a “do-over” for? “ Make your child responsible for their backpacks. They need to pack them and leave them by the door they will go out each morning. Friendly reminder about snacks: Please do not send in any sweets for snack-they are not appropriate. Peanut butter crackers, pretzels, fruit, nuts, cheese & crackers, cereal bars, snack mix, or popcorn all great ideas for healthy snacks. Water bottles must be taken home daily and washed before bringing back to school. Please make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes on the days they go to PE. Please see our daily schedule on the front page. This will remain on my Newsletter each week. We go to PE twice each week. You may want to cut out the schedule and put it on your refrigerator as a reminder about wearing tennis shoes on your child’s PE days. We have had a change in our schedule, please make sure you look at the one on the front of this Newsletter.
