u. s. coast guard national maritime center providing credentials to mariners 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 Medical Certificate Timeline As of 01/02/14 The Coast Guard started issuing separate medical certificates to certify mariner compliance with the minimum medical standards. 03/25/14 – 03/24/17 U.S. vessels that cannot demonstrate compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) may be at risk of port state control actions, including detention, when operating in the port of a ratifying nation. After 03/24/17 A person may not employ or engage an individual on a vessel subject to STCW unless that individual maintains a valid medical certificate. After 03/24/19 A person may not employ or engage any individual that is required to hold an MMC unless that individual maintains a valid medical certificate. 888-iasknmc
