Names of all authors on the project
It is common to place a photo with your here so that people can see who you are and contact you even when not at your poster. Title Here Names of all authors on the project Department of XXX, Middlebury College (only if your work is affiliated with a dept.) INTRODUCTION RESULTS DISCUSSION In this field you will fill in background about the work. Use a minimum of 18 size font for any text on this poster It should be broad enough that a wide variety of people can understand what motivated your work and why it is important. This text can be in bullet form or in paragraph form. Don’t overwhelm the reader with too much text. White space is good and makes people less intimidated by your poster and more likely to come over and talk to you! It’s nice to put figures/results in the center of your poster because these are the talking points you most want to focus on. Putting figures that are large enough to see about 3 feet away (with good resolution) is highly encouraged. A PowerPoint poster’s maximum size is 36x48. It will fit on the print paper and poster boards well with extra room. The plotter paper printable height is 41” with a variable length, as the paper is on a roll. The symposium poster board you will have to hang your poster on has a length of 64.5”. Posters with the maximum dimensions (41”x64.5”) can be created in Adobe Illustrator. This section synthesizes what the results mean for the project. Do the results support your null or alternative hypothesis (if applicable)? What does this mean for the field? Why are your results important? FUTURE WORK This is an optional section but can be nice if you have specific future plans for the work that you want to discuss This section (like all sections) can be in bullet or in paragraph form. It’s up to you! Note the style of references cited. Use the style most commonly used in your field. It is okay for the font in this section to be smaller. Figure 1. Figure caption goes here. It does not need to have a box around it. It’s up to you! Don’t forget to put figure captions that explain the figure. The goal is that even if you weren’t standing there people could understand the figure by reading the caption HYPOTHESIS You may choose to have a specific section for your hypothesis if this is applicable to your work. 1Sandve SR, Fjellheim S (2010) Did gene family expansions during the Eocene-Oligocene boundary climate cooling play a role in Pooideae adaptation to cool climates? METHODS Figures that are not necessary to the explanation of the project should not be placed on your poster because this decreases the professionalism of the poster. Remember that you poster supports your presentation. Don’t forget to outline and practice your talking points, which for the symposium should be able to address a broader audience. This section explains what methods you used. It can be in bullets or in paragraph. Bullets are usually easier to read for this section. You may choose to have a smaller font here to save space, or you can make the font the same size as the other sections . Make sure there is enough detail to understand but don’t get too bogged down in the details. People will listen to your presentation. You could even have figures here if that is helpful. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This is an important section. Don’t forget to thank those who helped you make this project possible. This includes your sponsor(s)/advisor(s) and any funding agencies. Figure 4.
