Pakuranga College Junior Physical Education 2011 Survey Results

2 Junior Physical Education Survey
The survey was undertaken during Week 9 and 10 of Term 3 within the Junior Health classes. Of the 878 junior students, we had 580 completed surveys (66%). This was split into 283 males and 297 females. Also split into 280 Year 9 students and 300 Year 10 students.

3 Notable Outcomes of the Survey
91% of students enjoy Physical Education, (90.8%). 83% of students enjoy Health. After splitting the “Just Do It” unit into four different topics this year, three of them were the Favourite Topics and the other topic was fifth. Team Games, Net Games and Invasion Games where the favourite topics gaining an average rating of over 3/4. Get Active and ABL were the least favourite topics, rating at 2.8/4. Sexuality was the most liked topic in both Year 9 and 10 Health, rating 3/4. All about me, Balanced Lifestyles and Building Positive Relationships and Summer Safety were the least favourite topics, rating 2.6/4 Tennis, Rugby and Table Tennis are the most wanted physical activities that we don’t already teach specifically.

4 Notable Outcomes of the Survey
The field and the health classrooms were voted to be below a “Good” rating, with the changing rooms gaining less than “Average” Students are very clear about what they are learning and think that the classes are informative, rating above “Mostly”. Classes are also very important, relevant, fun and enjoyable. 115 of the students have selected to continue with Health and Physical Education into Year 11, (19.8%). A majority of students that aren’t taking Health or PE in 2012, stated that it was because: “Not enough option lines or subjects” “Doesn’t help me in my career path”

24 We need to ask ourselves, (as a Department) a few important questions…
Where to Next ???? We need to ask ourselves, (as a Department) a few important questions… Is this data enough to warrant any changes? Do WE (as the teachers of the programme) have an opinion on the programme? If changes do happen, what are the possible implications and will this affect future data? What do we change, what do we change it to, and why should we change it?

25 Individualised Data This year, I have managed to separate the data for each individual teacher. This is to be used for Appraisal, Development of teaching particular units of work. It is very useful data, as it comes directly from YOUR students. Go through your data and compare it to the overall data. What data is positive, negative, and what are some things you could focus on for 2012 and beyond?
