3 The Simple Future Form the simple future with: S + will + base form

To make the future progressive: S + will be + _____ ing Will + S + be ___ing? S + won’t be + ___ing I will be running Bernice will be smoking Will my teacher be checking? The police won’t be taking

10 The Future Progressive
The future progressive is almost the same as the past progressive, except that it’s in the future! INCOMPLETE ACTIONS: At 9:00 yesterday, I was studying. At 9:00 tonight, I will be studying.

The future progressive is almost the same as the past progressive, except that it’s in the future! INTERRUPTED ACTIONS: I was studying when she arrived. I will be studying when she arrives. Please notice the use of the present tense!

I’m seeing a friend tomorrow. Tonight, we’re studying for the exam. I’m leaving tonight. Please remember: The present progressive is often used for future plans!

15 The Present Progressive
I’m seeing a friend tomorrow. Tonight, we’re studying for the exam. I’m leaving tonight. We use it for strong arrangements. This means you may have: Bought tickets Paid for your hotel Told 10 people you’d be doing it etc., etc.

16 Be + Going To

17 Be + Going To When be going to is used in the present, it has a future meaning. This is very common for plans that aren’t arranged. Be going to + base form I’m going to study tomorrow. This weekend, I’m going to see that new space movie. We’re going to leave.

18 Be + Going To We do NOT say: will be + going to + base form because it’s already in the future! We change “BE” to the simple present and simple past. I will be going to study tomorrow.  I am going to study tomorrow=  I was going to study yesterday = 

19 Be + Going To When it’s used in the past, it shows something that you wanted to do but didn’t. I was going to study yesterday, but I was too lazy. We were going to leave, but we were trapped.

20 Be + Going To It’s going to rain tomorrow.
My mom’s going to freak out when she sees my hair! When are the Canucks going to win the Stanley Cup? This tense is VERY COMMON for for predictions.

22 Simple Present Lastly, remember that we use the simple present to discuss schedules. To make it the future, add a future word. The bus leaves at 5:00. The bus leaves at 5:00 tomorrow. The restaurant opens at 9:00. The restaurant opens at 9:00 next week.

23 Be + Going To I will see him.
I’m very sure this will happen. STRONG (95%) If this doesn’t happen, I’ll be angry/upset. I will see him. I’m seeing him. I’m going to see him. I might/may see him. Be + going to is very common for discussing plans. It is not very strong at all. This is my plan. This might happen. It might not. WEAK (40%)
