Parallel Sections of Left Ventricular Myocardial Biopsies A and B show a myocardial biopsy from a patient with a small amount of extracellular matrix (9.6%/mm2) and a walk distance of 483 m. In contrast, C and D depict a representative sample from a patient with a larger amount of extracellular matrix (45%/mm2) and a 6-min walk distance of 280 m. (A and C) Trichrome stain. Extracellular matrix stains blue-purple or green. (B and D) TissueFAXS software (version 3.5.5, TissueGnostics, Vienna, Austria) analysis. Extracellular matrix is marked by green dots. Dark gray areas were not included in the analysis due to defects in either tissue or staining.
