LABOR CONTRACTS DIVISION - Assistance with regards to finding a job ABANDONDED LANDS DIVISION - Assistance with regards to finding a home EDUCATION DIVISION - Assistance with regards to getting an education MARRIAGE DIVISION - Assistance with making there marriages legal and therefore the children of those marriages would now be considered legitimate heirs to any fortune that the family might acquire RATIONS – Assistance with getting food, clothing, and basic needs met COURTS DIVISION - Assistance in the Court of Law or legal representation if their rights were being violated

Your task: In your teams you will examine two documents relating to a portion of the Freedman’s Bureau. First you will need to decide as a team, what group of the Freedmen’s Bureau you have received. Next you will need to read through the document, look for key information, annotate, and determine what are the main characteristics of that particular group. (Example: If you received Education, what did the Education group do in particular to assist newly freed slaves in order to help them succeed?) Once you have determined the main characteristics, come up with a plan of how you want to explain that part to the class. You will need to create a poster that describes it to the class. The title of your Freedmen’s Bureau Section The purpose of the Freedmen’s Bureau Section your group has: What aspect of life is that group supposed to affect? (family life, social life, work life?)
