Robotics: Sphero SPRK +
AISES K-12 Programs Power Up Science Fair Power Up workshops provide hands-on STEM activities using the scientific method to encourage Native youth to conduct STEM research and participate in science fairs. Specifically Power Ups help prepare students to participate in the AISES National American Indian Virtual Science and Engineering Fair (NAIVSEF). At these workshops, students will learn the steps necessary to develop and conduct a research project, and educators will participate in a new STEM activity they can incorporate into their curriculum and further develop the skills necessary to support student research. Robotics: Sphero SPRK + Using the Sphero robotics ball, students engage in connected play and discovery. From math and science to programming and the arts, hands-on activities expand imaginations and encourage a love for STEM. Sphero SPRK+ teaches students to code while incorporating STEM activities, creativity, and collaboration. AISES has partnered with Sphero to bring cutting edge technology to classrooms across Indian Country!

AISES K-12 Programs Student Research
STEM research is front and center at the AISES National Conference. AISES welcomes STEM research presentations from students grades Students present poster presentations of their work, competing for research awards. Student research projects range from Traditional Hawaiian Plant Knowledge to Harvesting Wind Energy. The EC is an energy-specific science fair designed to engage and encourage high school students to participate in STEM education through a creative, hands-on, problem solving process. The EC is also a virtual fair with students submitting their EC project online for judging. High school students may compete as individuals, or as teams consisting of up to 3 students. AISES encourages participants to consider energy related issues facing their communities.

HIGH SCHOOL (SENIOR DIVISION) GRADES 5-8 (JUNIOR DIVISION)
The National American Indian Virtual Science and Engineering Fair (NAIVSEF) involves students in meaningful experiments and presentations to spark their interest in and excitement around science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Focused on Native American middle and high school students, grades 5–12. Teams may include non-Native students as well. Students submit their project presentations as videos and slideshows online. Students present to a panel of three science fair judges via conference calls. Winning Senior Division (High School) projects receive travel funding to participate in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college competition. 2017 NAIVSEF TIMELINES The NAIVSEF provides a significant opportunity for students to: do hands-on science apply their knowledge of STEM conduct research and collect data interact with professional role models in STEM HIGH SCHOOL (SENIOR DIVISION) GRADES 5-8 (JUNIOR DIVISION) Online registration January 9 – February 15, 2017 SRC review and research approval process February 15-22, 2017 Deadline for submission of abstracts March 3, 2017 Review of abstracts March 6 –10, 2017 Last day to upload corrected forms/abstracts, if required March 17, 2017 Deadline for submission of projects videos/slideshows March 22, 2017 Interviews via teleconference calls (Fair Days) April 3-7, 2017 Online registration January 18 – February 24, 2017 SRC review and research approval process February 25 – March 3, 2017 Deadline for submission of abstracts March 14, 2017 Review of abstracts March 15 –17, 2017 Last day to upload corrected forms/abstracts, if required March 24, 2017 Deadline for submission of projects videos/slideshows April 7, 2017 Interviews via teleconference calls (Fair Days) April 24-28, 2017 naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org naivsef.aises.org
