Live in the forests of East TX Live in the deserts of West TX (brown) (green) FOOD: Farmers TRIBES: Caddo, Wichita, Tejas (Hasinai) LIVED: Piney Woods, Post Oak Belt, Cross Timbers HOUSING: dome shaped timber and straw houses ***Permanent Villages*** ***Known for pottery*** FOOD: Farmers TRIBES: Tigua, Jumano LIVED: Mountains and Basins along the Rio Grande HOUSING: Adobe houses ***Permanent Villages*** ***Used irrigation for crops*** Plains Gulf Known as warriors and hunters of buffalo Live on the coasts of TX along the Gulf (blue) (red) FOOD: Nomads (foragers – to search for food) TRIBES: Karankawa (Gulf Coast Plain), Coahuiltecans (South TX Plains) LIVED: See above HOUSING: wikiups (portable grass & stick shelters) ***Cabeza de Vaca lived with this culture for years*** FOOD: Nomads (hunters) TRIBES: Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, *Tonkawa (lived in the Austin area) LIVED: All of the Great Plains, NCP, some Coastal Plains and M&B HOUSING: Teepees ***Really, REALLY good with horses*** ***This culture survived the longest of the four in TX***
