2 Minoans A seafaring people who lived primarily on the island of Crete in the Aegean Sea. The Minoans dominated trade in the Eastern Mediterranean from 2000 to 1400 B.C. The Minoans are the first civilization of Ancient Greece.

3 Aegean Sea An arm of the Mediterranean Sea that lies between Greece and Turkey. It was a main trade route for the ancient civilizations of Crete, Greece, Rome, and Persia.

4 Export Goods and / or services which are produced in one country and sold in another. Example: Some vegetables are grown in the U.S. by U.S. farmers but are sent overseas to be sold.

5 Knossos An ancient city on the island of Crete where culture flourished from about 2000 BC to 1400 BC. Capital of the Minoan civilization.

6 Phoenicians A seafaring people who lived in city-states along the eastern Mediterranean Sea. They had an alphabet based on symbols for sounds. Known for setting up colonies all over the Mediterranean world, and as far away as Africa.
