Course Aim(s) Discover how to get the most out of the Cardiff Met Windows 10 environment, enabling you to work securely and efficiently, anytime, any place.

Objectives By the end of this session you should be able to:
Confidently navigate the Windows 10 environment, using elements such as the Start menu, Task View and search to work productively. Understand the role of your Office 365 account in synchronising documents and settings between devices. Ensure their account remains secure by following best practice. Identify where documents should be stored in a Windows 10 environment. Save and share documents using OneDrive and SharePoint. Organise (e.g. rename, delete, move) OneDrive documents through the web interface and through File Explorer. Use some of the new Office 2016 features (e.g. Tell Me, Insights) to work a bit more efficiently. Appreciate how Skype for Business can be used to make audio/video calls and send instant messages. Identify other software that is available and may be of use.

Your Office 365 Account

With Windows 10 you now have two accounts. Your normal Cardiff Met account. Continue to use this account to log-on to computers and access other services such as or SharePoint. Usernames for this account are usually of the form SM12345 An Office 365 account. This account is used primarily used to synchronise documents between devices. Username: [Cardiff Met . E.g. Office 365 account also gives access to online services and apps… E.g.

Office 365 Services & Apps OneDrive for Business Skype for Business
OneDrive – accessing documents from anywhere Skype for Business – video/audio calls Other services – OneNotes – taking and managing notes. Synchronised between devices using Office 365 Online versions of Office apps – Word, Excel etc. (not that useful) Delve – online profile Yammer/Office 365 Groups/PowerBI – new services will be released over time, so O365 account will become more important Can also download Office for home use from O365 portal (but not on Cardiff Met computers) Office 365 Services & Apps

OneDrive for Business Windows 10 introduces a new storage option, OneDrive. OneDrive is a cloud storage service that allows you to access your documents from anywhere. Cloud = collection of servers, MS servers. More space available.

OneDrive for Business OneDrive is the place to save all your “personal” documents: you do not wish to share with other staff working on privately in preparation for sharing with other staff. Replacement for My Site

Secure Complies with legislation Easily accessible from anywhere and on any device Unlimited space for documents Can share with colleagues and people outside Cardiff Met. Secure – username and password required. Vs other cloud storage - encrypted hard drive. controllable by IT. Legislation – complies with Data Protection Act Easily accessible – great apps for mobile devices Space – virtually unlimited (1TB) Share – large files and outside Cmet.
