1
Earth’s motion
2
Rotation vs. Revolution
The spinning of the Earth on its axis. The path of the Earth around the Sun.
3
Think Pair Share How can you differentiate between rotation and revolution?
4
Gravity Gravity is the force that attracts all objects toward each other. Law of Universal Gravitation states that every object in the universe attracts every other object.
5
What 2 factors affect the strength of gravity?
Mass Distance The greater the mass, the greater the gravitational force. As the distance between objects increases, the force of gravity decreases.
6
Think Pair Share Does the gravitational force of the Sun or the Earth have more of an affect on the moon? Explain.
7
Inertia and Orbital Motion
Inertia = the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion. Orbital Motion = The result of gravity and inertia working together.
8
Think Pair Share What forces allow the pig to maintain its path?
9
Learning Scale 4 – Create a model that explains how gravity affects the motion of the Sun, Earth, & Moon. 3 – Can explain how gravity affects the motion of the Sun, Earth, & Moon. 2 – With help, can explain how gravity affects the motion of the Sun, Earth, & Moon. 1 – Understands the concept of gravity.
