5 Warm-Up in Rehearsal What do we need to warm up??
What is your system? Any warm up needs structure, consistency, familiarity, but also room for variation and tweaking. How will your percussion and auxiliary units warm up? With the Band? Separate? Where?

6 Marching Warm-Up Fundamentals every day!!
What do you want to accomplish with your fundamental system? Involve elements that are important to you: Posture and Carriage Step style Step size Marching for proper playing Uniformity PLEASE USE DIFFERENT TEMPOS!!! OTHER PURPOSE: Warm Up the BRAIN!

7 Marching Drills/Warm Up
8 to 5s, or 6s or halfs (with variations - Slow motion, points, horns up/down, sequences, mark times) Example Sequence ( MT 8, FM 8, MT 8, FM 12, MT 8, FM 16, Close) Box Drills (MT 4, FM 8, RS 8, BM 8, LS 8, Repeat or Close) ALWAYS HAVE A SYSTEM OF DRESSING

8 Music Warm Up Concert Band Approach?
Breathing! - What are good exercises? Steal from the Breathing Gym(Pilafian/Sheridan). Think about ways to achieve good tone, flexibility, articulations, dynamic levels. Metronome Use? Chorales are a good idea - Purpose. Have a system for Intonation. Have it written out and practiced. Establish Good Habits. Ears and Brain are important!

9 HOMEWORK! Read Chapter 2 in the Markworth Handbooks Due Feb. 6th

10 Handbooks Should Include (but not limited to):
Title, General Info, Contact Info Table of Contents Mission Statement Goals Attendance Policy Grading Policy Rehearsal Expectations Performance Requirements Code of Conduct Uniform - Appearance Standards/Replacement Equipment - Storage, care, appearance, repair Leadership Band Boosters Award System Do not worry about Band Camp and Calendar stuff for now - this will be added in later after those lectures and projects.
