5. What are we learning today?
History Objective - We will identify the trails that early pioneers used to travel west, and some of the obstacles they faced on their journey.
Behavior – Work Ethic: We will follow directions, stay on task, and compete our work today.
Language Objective - We will follow the instructions for our maps and carefully complete them.

6. Trails West
Long before non-Indians came to the Americas, Native Americans had created complex systems of trade routes across the country.
Mountain Men and other explorers discovered these trails in their travels, and later guided pioneers along them.
These trails became routes west for pioneers looking to start a new life in a new land.

7. Overland Trails
Today we are going to trace where these trails went, what obstacles they encountered, and then answer questions about the journey west using our maps.
Take out your map page and your instruction page.
