7th/8th Grade New Year’s Resolutions Having a direction and goal to work towards is a helpful thing to keep yourself on track. What are some goals you have for yourself in 2018? Think about academic goals and personal goals. What steps will you need to take in order to accomplish these goals?

Watch this Oxi-clean infomercial: Now, write an infomercial to sell ONE of the following products:

#17 The Great Debate 8th Grade Choose one for the following claims to write about. You may agree or disagree, but make sure to give logical reasoning and evidence. Challenge yourself to think about the possible counterclaims and how you might be able to address those. Children (watch, do not watch) too much television. There (should, should not) be a dress code at school. Gum chewing (should, should not) be allowed at school. Community service (should, should not) be required for high school graduation. Homework (should, should not) be eliminated.

#18 Go Ahead…Convince Me 7th/8th Grade As you are learning, persuasive/argumentative writing can be very powerful. Choose one of the options below to practice this skill. Remember to keep your audience in mind so that you can be most effective. Convince your parents to raise your allowance. Convince a teacher to award you with five bonus points on an assignment Convince a friend to join an activity Convince your parents to take you to a particular vacation spot. Convince a teacher to eliminate homework.

7th/8th Grade *After watching Taylor the Latte Boy, pretend you are Taylor. *Tell the story from your point of view. What do you think of Kristin? Is there a reason you made her drink a triple? How about why the latte was free? *Be sure to explain your thoughts and reasons.
