RNAPII pausing during transcription initiation allows for nascent RNA capping by the Cet1p, Abd1p, and Ceg1p capping factors, of which the two latter bind the RNAPII CTD. RNAPII pausing after the pA site allows for RNA 3′ end formation by the CPF and CFIA complexes. The latter includes the CTD-binding factor Pcf11p. It is now shown that RNAPII pausing near the 3′ splice site (3′SS) may allow for cotranscriptional splicing. Red signs (II) on the gene indicate RNAPII pause sites.
