People-centric approach
LiFi – secure and stable connection as an alternate to WiFi Way finding – save time finding a meeting room or an available desk Personal control – employee ability to control work environment Tunable white – create environments to suit changing employee needs with lighting quality, color and intensity • Building ‘technology around people’ rather than ‘people around technology’ gives workers more flexibility and empowers them 5
6
Connectivity through lighting
7
Why LiFi makes sense Secure communication Reliable network
Content only available within line-of-sight. Access to connectivity with personal USB key/dongle Reliable network Stable data rate per each user providing robust, reliable wireless communication Alternative solution LiFi Systems can be used in areas with poor or no WiFi or RF sensitive spaces
8
Way finding through lighting
Uses the lighting infrastructure and real-time occupancy data to guide employees wherever they need to go Hyper-accurate indoor navigation opens up a host of additional applications and improves employee performance and experience Visible light communication (VLC) or coded light communicates data through lighting
9
Personal control through lighting
Using VLC, office workers can control light levels via a smartphone app on demand Creates a comfortable and productive environment Third-party devices / systems can use employee positioning information for further integration (AV, Lync, Microsoft, HVAC control, room booking) using an API to provide x,y,z co- ordinates
10
Humans need light Health through lighting Light allows us to see
Light allows us to experience the environment Light regulates our circadian rhythm Light influences our mental functioning Light is much more than the opposite of dark
11
Health through lighting
Today people spend more time working than anything else, even sleeping:* 9% Other 36% Working 4% Eating 4% Household activities 5% Caring for others 10% Leisure and sports 32% Sleeping *Source: 360Magazine-Issue67
12
Five aspects of electric light that matter
Light intensity Color temperature Light distribution Personal control Lighting design 12
13
Tunable white concepts
in office environments Dynamics Automatically mimic daylight patterns by adjusting color temperature and brightness level throughout the day Scene set Pre-determined presets instantly sets the scene for room ambiance that supports the task Personal control Providing maximum control to the user to tune the lighting to his/her needs
