Today You Will Investigate the Problem:
HELLO Researchers! Today You Will Investigate the Problem: How do cells reproduce?
3
Learning Goals 1. List and describe the six stages of mitosis. 2. Evaluate the importance of cell division.
4
Stages of Mitosis Interphase
The cell grows and chromosomes are copied. Chromosomes are seen as chromatin. The cell prepares for mitosis.
5
Stages of Mitosis Prophase
The nuclear membrane dissolves. Chromosomes are seen as “rods” Spindle fibers start to form. Mitosis begins.
6
Chromosomes duplicate
7
Stages of Mitosis Interphase
The cell grows Chromosomes are copied. Chromosomes are seen as chromatin. The cell prepares for mitosis.
8
Stages of Mitosis Metaphase
The chromosomes attach to the fibers. The chromosomes line up and down the middle of the cell.
9
Stages of Mitosis Anaphase
The chromosomes are pulled apart by the fibers to the opposite sides of the cell.
10
Stages of Mitosis Telophase
Nuclear membrane reform around the two sets of chromosomes. The cell stretches. Mitosis ends.
11
Stages of Mitosis Cytokinesis
The cytoplasm divides and two identical cells are formed. Chromosomes are seen as chromatin.
