2 Mars, also known as the red planet, is the 4th planet from the sun
Mars, also known as the red planet, is the 4th planet from the sun. It has the largest volcano in the solar system and has some very large impact craters.

3 The planet mars is made from rock
The planet mars is made from rock. The ground there is red because of the iron oxide in the rocks and dust. The planets atmosphere is very thin and contains heaps of carbon dioxide (also known as co2). Did you know, mars’ first ever name was Ares, named after the Ancient Greeks god of war. Then, when the Ancient Greeks were conquered by the Romans, they renamed it Mars after the Roman god of war. Appearance

4 Mars’ moons Deimos Phobos
Mars has two moons which are called Phobos and Deimos. Both are fairly small and could be former asteroids. Fascinatingly, Phobos orbits Mars at a distance of only about 5,500 miles away from it’s centre. Mars’ moons Phobos Deimos

5 Water on Mars Water may flow on Mars, although that definitely doesn't mean its easy to spot. Scientists have been searching for water on the red planet for over 15 years! These dark slopes on the surface of Mars is evidence that there was once water on this mysterious planet.

7 Wow facts! Mars is around 227,940,000 kilometres from the Sun.
Mars is the last of the terrestrial planets. On Mars you could jump 3x higher than you could on Earth! Now that’s high! Mars is the second smallest planet in the solar system after Mercury. In million years from now, scientists think Mars’ largest moon Phobos will be torn apart and will form a ring around Mars!
