NYS Mathematics Standards: Prerequisites 3.N.10 Prior Knowledge: When you have a pizza and share it among 8 friends, how many equal-sized slices do you cut? What operation of arithmetic does this represent?

Mini-lesson: In a fraction, the number above the fraction bar is called the numerator. The number below the fraction bar is called the denominator. A fraction names a part of a whole. Numerator = number of parts being used Denominator number of parts that make a whole
