4 Where can children play in Mumbai?
To develop, children must enjoy lots of different types of play. In Mumbai, most children play just like children in the UK in places such as… On the street Parks Any open ground Water and amusement parks! Sports centres with lots of different activities WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TYPE OF PLAY? TALK TO THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU!

6 Education in Mumbai Mumbai is a major centre of learning.
School is very important in Mumbai to both parents and children because the economy is growing. Students are taught in Marathi (their mother tongue) but sometimes in Hindi, Urdu or even English! Education is free but sometimes people send their children to private schools if they have a lot of money Students are extremely competitive. This comes from parents and society. Children will start to take exams from as early as pre- school.

10 The Suburban Railway Network
The most common form of public transport in Mumbai is the suburban railway. As you can see, it is so over crowded that people just hang on for dear life just to commute into the city for work every day. This is extremely dangerous and as a result, over 23,000 people have died travelling over the last decade.

11 City buses The city buses are also extremely popular in and around the city and some are even fitted with luxury air conditioning!

12 Taxi Please! Black-and-yellow painted taxis ply the streets of Mumbai; however, unlike in most Indian cities, three-wheeled auto rickshaws are banned from the city centre. BANNED!!!

15 Environment Mumbai is a truly beautiful city however because of rapid overpopulation and overcrowding, the city faces a huge environmental issue. A lot of people live in poverty (especially immigrants) An estimnated 42% of people live on streets or in slums. The city is one of the most densely populated in the world!

High growth rate Pollution Inadequate sanitation CO2 emissions Serious air pollution FACT: Breathing Mumbai’s air can be the same as smoking more than 20 cigarettes a day!
