Activity 9: Measuring Mass and Calculating Density
White Space ?: Name three objects you think have a large mass and three objects you think have a smaller mass. Challenge Question: How can you use the mass and volume of an object to calculate the density? Background: Read p A-36 and write down three facts Vocabulary: Density: the amount of mass in a given volume (g/cm3) or (g/ml3) Mass: the amount of matter (stuff) in an object Weight: the mass of an object with the force of gravity pushing down on it.

Activity 9: Measuring Mass and Calculating Density
Materials: Read over the list on p A-37 and see what you will need Procedure: Read over page A-37 to A-39 and see if you understand each part Data: Use the provided handout rather than making your own chart

Activity 9: Measuring Mass and Calculating Density
Analysis Questions: Answer questions 1-3 on page A-40 using the data you collected from this activity. You will also need to use Table 3 on page A-40 to help you answer the questions. Conclusion: What did you learn about measuring mass? How do you calculate density? What is the density of water? Notes to Self: Finish all homework!!
