4 Edward Seymour/Somerset
TASK: Using your homework, summarise who Somerset is and why he is important when studying Edward VI’s reign in one sentence. Firstly, Somerset is Edward’s Uncle, because he is Jane Seymour's’ brother. When Edward took over, he was 9 years old and therefore needed a Regency Council to help him rule. Somerset took charge of the Regency Council after the death of Henry VIII, and gained the title Lord Protector. He held this position from 1547 until his downfall in 1549.
