2. What is the PSAT? Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test
Helps students determine what they need to work on most now, so that they’re ready for college when they graduate from high school
PSAT 8/9 measures what student are already learning, shows them whether they’re on track for college, and lets them know where they need the most improvement. This means that student have time to tackle these areas long before they take the SAT

3. How does PSAT fit in our system?
Aligned to the SAT and SBAC
Tests same skills as the SAT, but at a level appropriate to the students’ grade level.
Content on the PSAT is aligned to CCSS standards taught through that grade level
Scores are vertically aligned
Student score on the PSAT is equal to what a student would have scored on the SAT if taken that same day.
Scores over multiple years can be used to show progress toward SAT and college readiness.

4. PSAT 8/9
PSAT 8/9 is designed specifically for students in grades 8 and 9
Slightly shorter than PSAT/NMSQT students will take in 10/11
2 hours and 25 minute to complete the assessment.
Maximum score is 1440 (SAT is 1600).
Score is reduced to account for removal of challenging content found on PSAT/NMSQT and SAT that is not present in PSAT 8/9 (as it is has not yet been taught according to those grade level standards)

5. Why do PSAT scores matter?
Key component of our district assessment system
Interim Assessments, PSAT, SBAC --- all aligned to CCSS
Used to identify students for high school course placement
AP Potential: Student scores are analyzed to identify Advanced Placement courses students should consider taking in high school.
SAT scores are a major factor in college admission – PSAT helps students to prepare and improve in advance
