Why Does Diversity Matter and How Can We Achieve it? 1994, The PhD Project has increased the number of African-American, Hispanic-American and Native American business faculty from just 294 to over 1,250 today, creating role models and mentors for minority business students while dispelling stereotypes.    ► Why – now more than ever – is this is critical? ► And, what can you can be doing on your campus to foster diversity?   

4 The PhD Project: A Systemic Model
Mission: To increase workplace diversity by increasing the diversity of business school faculty who encourage, mentor, support and enhance the preparation of tomorrow’s leaders. Vision: A significantly larger talent pipeline of African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and Native Americans for business leadership positions.  Business Schools Business Deans Business Faculty Business The PhD Project All collaborating to improve faculty diversity – a very different approach.

5 Our Approach 97% of our Ph.D.’s remain in academia The PhD Project Doctoral Students Association Conferences: Encourages minority doctoral students resulting in a 92% completion rate. Held in con- junction with AAA, AMA, AOM, AFA and AMCIS The PhD Project Annual Conference: Attracts and informs potential minority doctoral students about a career as a business school professor. Each November, we host an invitational conference for minorities considering business doctoral studies. This approach has led to a 385% increase in minority faculty in 24 years!

Recruit tenure track faculty from our network of over 1,500 minority faculty and doctoral students at business schools throughout the U.S. via our PhD Project Job Board ( Recruit for adjunct faculty, lecturers and roles in administration an exclusive database of more than 7,000 talented minority professionals who attended a PhD Project conference but have decided not to enter a business doctoral program via our PhD Project Job Board ( Share information about graduate and other programs at your university with The PhD Project network of faculty, doctoral students and past conference attendees Doctoral Granting Institutions can also recruit minority doctoral students before, during and after our annual conference
