Education & Employment
By Chloe and Millie
2
Education Young people spend the bulk of their time being educated.
Through education in schools and institutions such as TAFE and universities, young people are provided with the opportunities to gain knowledge and skills and be prepared to enter the work force. Educational institutions are also places where young people can form relationships and challenge themselves. Leading to an enhanced social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing. Education is also linked with a better health status. Those with higher levels of education report fewer physical health concerns and better mental health and wellbeing than those with lower levels of education. Education can promote awareness of healthy behaviours, such as not smoking tobacco and maintaining adequate levels of physical activity and can therefor have a positive impact on physical and mental health and wellbeing, and health status. People with higher levels of education are also more likely to secure better paid jobs, which can lead to lower levels of stress and more income to pay for private health insurance and nutritious food.

Employment Young teens aged were more involved in part time jobs than full time jobs. Since 1990, people in full time work were three times higher than those in part time work. One of the major reasons for this trend is due to the higher rates of young people staying at school to complete year 12, and increased numbers of young people undertaking further study after high school some teens usually get a part time job while they are still at school, whereas some may leave school to focus on a full time job. Employment can teach you general skills you many not learn at school Being employed is maintaining the physical, social, emotional and mental dimensions of health and wellbeing and promotes health status working conditions can have a huge positive or negative impact on your health There are occupational health and safety laws in Australia to ensure that workers are in a safe environment relating to physical space as well as machinery, training and supervision. The working space and physical activity that is involved in a young person job can impact their physical health and wellbeing work places can be very dangerous for young people who are new and inexperienced Unpleasant conditions can influence a young person’s mental health and wellbeing by effecting their self esteem and can contribute to causes of depression.
