World History United States History American Government (.5 or 1.0) Economics (.5 or 1.0) 4 science 1 Health & Personal Fitness (.5 each) 1 World language 2+ for admission to a 4-yr college 6 electives (at least 3 in fine arts/world languages) fine arts * world languages * any course in excess of requirements

4 How credits are earned 4 x 4 block 4 classes per semester
A unit awarded for successful completion Amount awarded depends upon time in class. On a 4 x 4 block schedule 1 credit is awarded for 1 semester class that meets every day. .5 credit is awarded for 1 semester class that meets every other day or half the time. 4 x 4 block 4 classes per semester Earn 4 credits per semester Earn 8 credits per year Semester 1 meets August – December Semester 2 meets January – may

7 Grading system A = 90 – 100 B = 80 – 89 C = 70 – 79 F = 69 and below
A failing grade will remain on the record/transcript even when it is repeated and passed. Every course counts in a student’s overall grade point average.

8 Grade point average - gpa
Gpa is determined by quality points A = 4 (90 – 100) b = 3 (80 – 89) c = 2 (70 – 79) f = 0 (69 & below)

9 Hope scholarship HOPE Scholarship is a merit-based award available to Georgia residents who have demonstrated academic achievement. HOPE Scholarship requirements: 3.0 GPA in English/language arts, math, science, social studies and world languages Successful completion of 4 courses possessing academic rigor chemistry algebra II world languages II and above Physics dual enrolled classes Students need to start earning a 3.0 GPA their Freshman year. Senior year is too late to bring your GPA up.

10 Zell miller scholarship
Designated valedictorian or salutatorian OR 3.7 HOPE GPA 4 Rigor courses 1200 SAT combined score or 26 ACT composite score

11 DUAL ENROLLMENT Allows high school students to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma Students earn both high school credit and college credit tuition, books and mandatory fees are paid by GSFC Eligibility requirements student in 9th through 12th grade Meet college admission requirements Satisfactory score on the accuplacer, SAT or ACT

12 Community service 20 hours by the end of the 3rd year in high school
Must be completed at a non-profit organization Students cannot get paid for their service time Service must be completed outside the normal school hours Minimum 3 paragraph reflective essay
